Background: Breakfast is an important activity carried out before activities in the morning, given the condition of the body that have not received food since the evening. Students majoring in nutrition polytechnic Makassar as the agent of change is responsible for helping and encouraging people to get used to breakfast. The results of Agusetiawan research, 2013, that student of nutrition in wan not breakfast 68,4% at Makassar polytechnic
Objective: This study aims to determine the factors that influence breakfast for nutrition student of polytechnic Makassar.
Methods: This study is a survey research using case-control approach. Samples were students of the second semester of nutrition and IV which totaled 48 for the cases with a total population method side and 48 for the control group by simple random sampling method. Factors influencing the breakfast habits was obtained via questionnaire and then inputted into Microsoft Excel and processed with the chi-square test by SPSS. Tables are presented in the form of a 2×2 table and narrative.
Results: The results showed that there was no difference in the availability of breakfast time between cases and controls (p = 0.796> 0.05). There is a relationship between students’ perceptions that the breakfast was troublesome to the breakfast habits (p = 0.036 <0.05). There is a relationship between students’ perceptions that late to get up early to be a barrier for someone to breakfast on breakfast habits (p = 0.014 <0.05). There is a relationship between students’ perceptions related to the availability of eating breakfast at home against habits (p = 0.041 <0.05).
Suggestion: It is recommended that future research could focused at breakfast and nutritional status. for students
