Background: Diabetes mellitus is a disease characterized by blood sugar levels in the high called hyperglikemia.Hyperglikemia than caused by the incidence of DM may also be affected by the intake of energy derived from macro-nutrients ie carbohydrates, proteins and fats. Objectives: This is study aims to describe the levels of when blood sugar based energy intake and macro-nutrients in patients with diabetes mellitus.
Methods: This research is descriptive, Diabetes mellitus is a sample of hospitalized patients in hospitals Makassar taken by purposive sampling in January-July 2015. Total sample of 13 people. The Levels when Blood Sugar obtained from patient medical record book, and intake of nutrition substance obtained through the recall of 3 x 24 hours then analyzed using Nutrisurvey 2004 and processed using Microsof Excel and presented in tables and narrative.
Results: The results showed that levels of when Blood sugar with high category as much as 87.5% in DM patients hospitalized in the Hospital of Makassar. 3×24-hour food recall results showed that the intake of energy and nutrients macro patients generally lack the energy percentage of 100%, 100% carbohydrate, 92% protein, and fat as much as 76.9%.
Conclusions: From observations obtained largely have intake of energy and macro nutrient lacking. It is suggested to the patient and family to be able to follow the diet properly. Likewise, the hospital provides an explanation of the purpose of feeding in the hospital while undergoing diet therapy diet especially those with diabetes mellitus so that patients understand and consume food provided by the hospital.
