HUBUNGAN ASUPAN MAKANAN DAN PEMBERIAN ASI DENGAN STATUS GIZI BALITA DI WILAYAH KERJA PUSKESMAS SAUMLAKI KABUPATEN MALUKU TENGGARA BARAT

Abstract

Background: Nutrition problems in Indonesia are more prevalent in children under five years. Malnutrition in children can cause some negative effects such as slow growth of the body,  prone to disease, and reduced level of intelligence. Serious nutritional deficiencies can lead to the death of a child.World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 54 % of the causes of child mortality based on the state of the poor nutritional status of children. Lack of nutrition or malnutrition expressed as the cause of 3.5 million children under five in the world died.

Objective: to gain knowledge about relation between mother’s education level, food intake (energy and protein), breastfeeding with toddlers nutrition status.

Methods: This is an observational analytic research with cross sectional studyapprocah. Population in this research is toddlers age one to five, as 70 and sample is 50 toddlers age 1-50.   Sample was taken by Quota Sampling with chi-square.

Results : Results show that there was relation between mother’s education level ρ (0,003), energy intake ρ (0,002), protein intake ρ (0,007), breast feeding ρ (0,002) with toddlers nutrition status.

Conclusions: The level of mother’s education level, energy intake, protein intake, breast feeding are associated with nutritional status of toddlers. It is recommended for mothers to get the information about nutrition, andit is expected that she practices the information to the environment surrounding the family and in order to get better toddlers nutritional status.
