Abstract

Background: The provision of complementary feeding in children is one of the things related to food intake so that the child needs to be taken to prevent the incidence of poor nutrition or malnutrition among children. Provision of complementary feeding is not appropriate to the age, type, consistency or form of administration and the frequency and amount of complementary feeding can inhibit the growth of children optimally.Therefore, it would be nice to prevent due to the provision of complementary feeding is not appropriate forchildren.

Objective: This study aims to determine how the image giving complementary feeding and nutritional status of children aged 7-12 months in Desa Salenrang Kacamatan Bontoa Kabupaten Maros.

Methods: This study is a descriptive study. Samples were children under the age of 7-12 months in the Desa Salenrang Kacamatan Bontoa Kabupaten Maros as many as 40 people were selected by purposive sampling. Data regarding the provision of complementary feeding were collected using interviews with the respondents (maternal samples) with a questionnaire instrument. Assessment of nutritional status was done manually with the anthropometric measurement of weight, body length and determine the age.

Results: This study showed that the age of first administration of MP-ASI of 67.5% is not appropriate and 32.5% accordingly. Type granting complementary feeding, amounting to 40.0% local, 60.0% of the manufacturer. Consistency, of 55.0% pulp, 5.0% soft. The frequency and amount, of 67.5% 2 times, 32.5% 3 times. Nutritional status based on index weight/age, 92.5% of normal, less than 5.0%, 2.5% severe malnutrition. Nutritional status based on the index high/age at 95.0% of normal, 5.0% very short, based on the index weight/height, at 72.5% of normal, at 17.5% thin, very thin at 5.0% and fat by 5.0%.

Suggestion: It is recommended that health workers provide counseling and demonstrate relevant provision of complementary feeding in children and to monitor the growth of children, especially for those who have problems of nutrition.
