Background : Nutritional problems in infants and children is a dual problem, which is the discovery of the problem of malnutrition and the problem of excess nutrients. Malnutrition in children under five will lead to impaired growth and development, and susceptible to disease infection, if not addressed early.
Objective : This study aims to describe the parent’s education, the mother’s knowledge of the MP – ASI, the practice of MP – ASI and nutritional status in children aged 6 – 24 months in the Taroada Villages, Districts Turikale, Maros Regency.
Methods : This study is a descriptive survey study. Samples were children aged 6-24 months in this study areas, Samples is many as 32 people were selected by purposive sampling. Data of the parent’s education, mother’s knowledge about the breast feeding’s complementary and the practice of breast feeding’s complementary was collected using interviews with patents using a questionnaire instrument. Assessment of nutritional status was determined using a computer program WHO Anthro 2005.
Results : The results showed that parent’s education are lack, which school elementary father 37,5% dan mother 40,6%, mothers’ knowledge of breast feeding’s complementary 62,5% bad, Practice of breast feeding’s complementary on infants under 2th are 78,1% good. But are age granting for the first under 6 month 21,9% and over 6 month 12,5%. Nutritional status based indexes BB/U of 12.5% lack and 18,8 % very less. Based on the index PB/U of 21,9% short and 9,4% short very short. Based on the BB/PB by 21,9 % thin and 9.4% very thin. The mother’s education related with nutritional status based indexes BB/U but the father’education not. Mothers’ knowledge of breast feeding’s complementary no related nutritional status based indexes PB/U but related with BB/PB.
Suggestion : to promoted nutritional status of infants need integrated with stakeholders for health education and the health care workers to providing frequent information about breast feeding’s complementary on that mother.
