Background: Food snacks school children is a problem that needs to be considered public, especially parents and teachers because of greatly increased risk of biological or chemical contamination of the many detrimental to health, both short term and long term. Improved knowledge of teachers and students is one of the efforts to prevent unsafe foods. The aim of research analyzing the influence of illumination on street food safety knowledge of elementary school children.
Method: quasi-experimental research with interventions such as counseling with the lecture method debriefing. Population is a teacher and elementary school students Inpres Pajaiyang Makassar Power and sample of teachers are all teachers were present study, while the sample of students is all fifth grade elementary school students were present study. The collection of data by performing pre-test and post test by interview.
Results: The mean score of knowledge of teacher education is quite low before 17.12 ± 18.55% and after counseling was increased to 67.85 ± 3.73%. Statistically significant differences teachers’ knowledge before and after counseling about the safety of street food grade school children (p = 0.005 <0.05). Knowledge of students about food safety is high enough snacks before the extension was 85.8% and increased to 90.2% after the extension. By statistical analysis shows that the knowledge of the students there are significant differences before and after counseling about the safety of street food grade school children (p = 0.015 <0.05).
Conclusion: The provision of counseling with the lecture method frequently asked questions can improve the knowledge of teachers and students about the safety of street food primary school children. This activity needs to be done extensively in every primary school in Makassar, for it is the Directorate of Health Polytechnic fixed budget each year.
